Its here! Katsana™ Advanced GPS Tracking System version 3.0 has been released on February 1st, 2015. Version 3.0 focuses in bringing new notification features that are deeply integrated with Katsana Policies.

This version contains the necessary framework that handles notification capability in the Katsana Live Tracking platform. This framework would allow us to introduce new notification & messaging capabilities in the future via multiple medium of communications.

In version 3.0, one highly requested feature (notification of speeding violation) is now available for users of Katsana. For any violation of the speed policy defined for your vehicle, an email will be sent immediately to your configured email account.

A little bit of backstory on notifications in Katsana

When we first develop Katsana, one of the top priorities in our to-do list is to provide our users with a cost-effective and modern notification solution that complements our advanced telemetric system.

We see that typical tracking systems in the Malaysian market employs a rather ancient way of communicating with users and this method of communication could easily rake up cost when you have more and more vehicles added to your fleet.

Through notifications in Katsana, we aim to change all that. Alerts should not be costly and businesses should always be able to keep their spending in check.

How does Katsana notification compares to other GPS tracking systems?

a. Provide detailed information of vehicle speeding violation

Compared to text-based information delivered through SMS, Katsana instead will send you a thorough speeding alert via email that contains a lot more movement & location data to help you understand better and come up with an informed decision.

b. Cost effective and scalable form of GPS-based notifications

Typical notifications from other GPS tracking system often rely on costly SMS-based communication. These SMS are sent directly from the GPS tracker, which may incur charges for each SMS sent.

Lets do a quick calculation:

  • Say a base cost of 1 (one) SMS is RM0.15 cents.
  • A vehicle that runs all day long may generate up to 10 SMS due to speeding, especially if the speed limit for the vehicle is 80 or 90 km/h.
  • Thus, in a month, the company could be paying up to RM45 per vehicle for SMS alone, excluding other charges incurred for their existing GPS tracking solution.

Katsana’s email-based notification is zero-cost, and yes, literally does not cost you anything. It scales well and you should not be worried about any charges no matter how many emails you are getting from Katsana.

c. Frees Fleet Operator from the desk, enabling them to become more productive.

Katsana’s detailed and immediate notification of speeding violation means that fleet managers are no longer chained to their desk and chairs. You are no longer required to monitor your vehicle 24/7. Instead, fleet managers can now become mobile, work from anywhere, and can be more productive due to more efficient time management.

With Katsana, fleet managers will be alerted the moment any violation occurs, directly onto their smarphone.

It is that easy.

d. Notification mechanism that works better in a large fleet environment.

Typical, ancient GPS tracking alerts that rely on SMS would mean notifications are sent to one mobile channel only due to the fact that SIM/GSM network cannot be shared across multiple devices. This would mean that the person who is in charge of the mobile phone has be on constant guard and can be the weakest link in an all-attentive, critical operation that require a fast response.

Katsana notifications via email allows you to share the information across multiple devices, and have better flexibility in managing your access. Standard email platforms nowadays such as Gmail provide you with the ability to auto-forward, filter, or categorize certain emails automatically and often performs much better in communicating alerts for mobile users.

How to enable notifications on my GPS tracking system?

Katsana strive to make things simple and easy. The new notification feature adheres to the mission and is even simpler to configure and use.

First, visit your policy page, and edit existing policy for your vehicle. If you dont have any policy enabled yet, you may create a new speed limit policy and the apply them for all your vehicles.

Then, in the policy detail page, you will see a new notification option. Simply switch it on in order for you to start receiving violation alerts.

Thats it. Its that simple. We hope that you’ll like it!
