KATSANA™ version 3.1 has been released on February 21, 2014. It is now available to all existing customers of Katsana.

New Satellite-mode Style

This version contains one of the most requested and useful features, which is the ability to view the map in satellite mode. Unimaginatively named ‘Satellite’, you may access this mode by locating the Layer toggle on the top-right corner of Katsana’s map. Read more for a video to demonstrate this.

On top of that, we have added another map style called ‘Light’ that boasts a light gray overlay of the map. This particular off-white style is useful if there are multiple vehicles on your KatsanaGPS account. It allows you to concentrate on individual vehicle and removes information clutter. We feel that you will like it. 🙂

Two new notification options

Remember our blog post a few weeks ago when we mentioned that we have developed and integrated a notification framework in Katsana v3.0? As a continuation of the initial notifications capability of v3.0, we have extended the features to include:

  • Area restriction violation: Be notified through email when a vehicle enters a restricted area, or exits a defined boundary.
  • Working hour restriction violation: Be notified through email when a vehicle is being used outside of allowable working hour.

As a refresher, this is how a modern GPS tracking notification email looks like on your phone.

A more focused Map section

In our attempt to provide you with cluster-free GPS tracking & Fleet management experience, we have decided to trim some fat in our live tracking page.

First in our checklist is to reduce the size of our Main Menu. Instead of text, we have made the Icons more prominent and thus enables the map area to be wider.

We have also removed the horizontal bar at the top of the map since it is no more than just a placeholder to write Titles on. The buttons on that bar are now made to be overlaid directly on to the map.

Beautiful, new 404 page.

Back in the old rusty version of 3.0 and prior, our default page to handle wrong URLs was a bit to plain and brutal. Those uncivilised days are gone and we now boast a new 404!
Give it a try here: http://my.katsana.com/404. You might want to refresh it a few times too. 🙂

Upgraded to Laravel 5 and Orchestra Platform 3

This part is quite geekish, I admit.

We pride ourselves at being the forefront of highly scalable, modern web application development. Thus, Katsana version 3.1 sees us supporting the new major version of Laravel, the PHP Framework for Web Artisans, and at the same time, upgraded our homegrown Orchestra Platform, to version 3.
On the infrastructure side, the upgrade and fine-tuning that we implemented in this latest version saw a noticeable reduction in data crunching tasks. At this moment, we are processing roughly 2.5-3 million rows of geolocation daily and we are excited to see how well Katsana can scale in the future.
I think thats all for now. Stay tuned for more exciting updates in the next version of Katsana!
Thank you all for the support and trust.
