Setting up a new Area restriction policy is a pretty straightforward task. After all, we strive to make new features relevant and easy to use at all times.

  • To get started, go to the Policy menu to get a list of all policies created in your account.
  • Click on Create Policy button located at the upper-right corner of the list.
  • Select the Area policy.

After that, submit the Title/Description of the policy. You might want to make the title as descriptive as possible as not to be confused in the future. We would suggest you to perhaps name the restriction based on the Areas selected, for example ‘Always in Kuala Lumpur HQ’ or ‘Never enter Johor Bahru’.

For the subsequent fields, follow our video instruction above on how to create an area selection in Katsana. Upon creation of area, you will notice this option below it:

  • Always within the area: The vehicle can not leave/exit the drawn area. Exiting would result in violation and will be logged in the vehicle profile.
  • Vehicle should never enter the area: Well, the drawn area becomes restricted and vehicles are not allowed to enter it.

Upon saving the policy, you will be redirected back to the list of policies that have been created in your account.

Assigning a policy onto vehicle

Now its time to assign the newly created policy to an individual vehicle.

To do so, visit the profile of the vehicle. Browse to the Policies tab, and you will see a list of policies that you can apply for the vehicle. Click ‘Add’ on the the desired policy to enforce it onto the vehicle. Any violations from then on will be displayed in Violations list, as shown below.

Scenario 1: Preventing a vehicle from exiting an area with Katsana Area Restriction feature

01In this scenario, say your company has a few 4×4 vehicles that are meant to be used only within Klang Valley/Selangor. These 4x4s are assigned to your support team members.

The problem: However, it seems that one or two drivers are using these vehicles for personal usages. For example, there are reports that the vehicle is being driven to Kuantan, or Malacca although it is your company’s policy to limit movement to only within Selangor.

Katsana to the rescue: With Katsana™ new Area Restriction policy, you will be able to define the area that the vehicle has to be in. Once a driver use the vehicle outside of the defined area, a violation will be log, and thus it would be easy for the company to detect misuse of the vehicle.

Simply configure the Area Setting toggle to ‘Always within this area’.

Scenario 2: Preventing a vehicle from entering an area or many areas with Katsana Area Restriction feature.

02In this scenario, probably to due some reasons, there are areas within Malaysia that your vehicles should never enter. For example, you might not want your lorries to enter Klang town, or prevent a support vehicle from ever entering areas meant for other vehicles.

The problem: You run a logistic company and need to carry valuable goods back and forth the factory. However, there have been cases where the driver might use an alternate route, and stopped for a while on these routes. And almost for certain, there are goods missing when he arrives at the base.

Katsana to the rescue: Similar with the scenario above, you will need to define an area that the vehicle should never enter. Based on his travel log, you can get a good overview of his journey behavior, and would want to draw a parameter that prevent the vehicle from entering a dubious area.

Simply configure the Area Setting toggle to ‘Vehicle Should Never Enter the Area’
