PETALING JAYA: Police have managed to score success with the recovery 17 stolen cars including luxury cars worth more than RM1.6mil in Negri Sembilan and Brickfields.

The Brickfields police detained nine suspects and recovered eight cars while the Negri Sembilan police detained three and recovered nine vehicles.

Negri Sembilan acting police chief SAC Datuk Abd Manan Mhd Hassan said they recovered nine stolen cars and detained three suspects following the arrest of a 48-year-old man with criminal records in Port Dickson on Oct 9 and another 32-year-old man and his 23-year-old girlfriend in Bahau three days later.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects would break into homes which had the luxury vehicles.

“After getting inside, they would look for the car keys and drive the cars away without ransacking their victims’ homes,” he said on Thursday adding that the suspects had also taken laptops or mobile phones.

SAC Abd Manan said the 32-year-old suspect had 14 previous criminal records for housing break-ins and wanted for several similar cases.

He said the cars were found in several locations here and in Johor.

“We believe the suspects were waiting to dispose the vehicles to buyers,” he said.

Meanwhile Brickfields OCPD ACP Azlee Abdullah said they had a breakthrough in the spate of ram-and-rob cases involving motorists with the arrest of nine suspects and recovered RM600,000 worth of luxury cars.

The group, consisting of eight men and one woman, have been involved in 20 cases of deliberately ramming the back of their victims’ cars and robbing them at knife-point when they came out to check the damage.

The suspects, in their 20’s to 30’s and of different nationalities, were arrested during a raid led by Insp Zairil Hazly Zulkiffli in two budget hotels on Oct 13.

“Initial investigations revealed that five of the suspects have criminal records, involving drugs and robbery.

“An interrogation led to us to eight stolen luxury cars worth around RM600,000 that were kept in condominiums and shopping complexes in Klang Valley,” he told reporters here.

ACP Azlee said police also confiscated a samurai sword, two long knives, black ski masks and break-in tools.
