How Fuel Subsidy Rationalization impacts you as Fleet Operator

‹ Back to article list
Subsidy no more

With the upcoming rationalization of fuel subsidy, we anticipate a significant increase in fuel cost. Without subsidy, RON95 is priced at RM2.76 per litre (October 2024 data). This is roughly 35% higher than the current subsidised price at RM2.05.

If you are spending RM100,000 per month for fuel right now, you will spend RM135,000 once subsidy is removed.

Let us share how you can manage and reduce fuel cost effectively.

How higher fuel price impacts fleet operations?

  • Higher fuel prices encourage opportunistic fuel thefts. Fuel thefts can happen in many ways, either siphoning from fuel tanks or during refueling where fuel is diverted into another tank instead of being filled into the rightful tank.
  • High speed and inefficient driving will cost fleet operators more. Based on numerous studies, driving at 120km/h will use 15-25% more fuel than at 100km/h. For a sedan with 50L tank, you will waste around RM34 simply due to high speed & inefficient driving.

How can you solve this problem?

  • Make use of the Speeding Report feature in KATSANA to identify speeding events and implement correctional measures for your drivers.
  • Implement High Speed policy to receive instant alerts when prolonged speeding events are detected.
  • Use DriveMark ranking to identify drivers with high risk behaviors. DriverMark score is developed by KATSANA using over 70,000 real driver profiles
  • Finally implement KATSANA Fuel Sensors to precisely measure fuel consumption. This sensor is available in several variants:
    • BLE-powered Fuel Level Sensor for Lorries & Trucks (external fuel tanks)
    • CANBus-powered Fuel Data for Passenger Vehicles (internal fuel tanks)
    • Meter-tapping for heavy machineries
