We are saddened to flip our morning newspaper to read one heartbreaking news. A 65 years old businessman from Sabah fell victim to a carjacking incident and passed away when he was dragged for 25 meters from his house.

Mr Peng Shih Cheng was pronounced dead on the spot by paramedics near his house at Taman Golden City after his failed attempt to stop the thief from driving away at about 10am yesterday.

Kota Kinabalu City police chief Asst Comm Jauteh Dikun said the man had just returned home and had left his engine running as he got out to open the gate of his house when an unidentified suspect jumped into the car and drove off.

The thief just continued driving even though the man hung on to the car door before losing his grip.

We believe that only one person is involved, and it appears to be a crime of opportunity as the engine was running.

Asst Comm Jauteh Dikun, Kota Kinabalu Police Chief

Our deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Peng Shih Cheng from Kota Kinabalu.

Tragic outcome: Family members covering the body of Peng after he was pronounced dead near his house in Taman Golden City in Luyang, Kota Kinabalu.
